Fun with Magnets

Yesterday Kellen went for his second meeting with the neurosurgeon at Riley.  Before we saw the doctor, Kellen had an MRI of his brain and spine.  They had to sedate him, so he would hold still during the scan.  It was more stressful for me than it was for him because no one wants to see their 8-month-old receiving anesthetic, but the doctors and nurses in the MRI department were very helpful and explained the whole process for us.  We were able to to go into the sedation room with him while he received the gas they used to anesthetize him.  Once he was sleeping, Glenn and I went out to the waiting room to wait for him to have the MRI.  I only got a little teary for a few seconds, which I thought was pretty good because if you know me, you know when I'm upset I have a hard time controlling my tears. :)

These are some pictures of Kellen playing while we were in the room waiting for the anesthesiologist to arrive.  I think he looks pretty darn cute in his little, peach gown.

We were only in the waiting room for about an hour and a half before they came to get us, so we could join Kellen in the recovery room.  When we got back there, he was still sleeping, but when the blood pressure cuff tightened on his arm, he woke up with a vengeance.  Since he hadn't eaten in about 12 hours, a bottle calmed him right down.

Once we were able to leave the MRI department, we went upstairs to meet with the neurosurgeon.  We had to wait for two hours before they finally called us back, but we did get to meet another mom with triplets.  All three of them have torticollis and plagiocephaly and are wearing helmets!  I can't even imagine dealing with the hassle of three helmets every day!  Thank God for small blessings, right?!

The neurosurgeon looked at the MRI, and he said he didn't see any bone or brain abnormalities.  So, we are proceeding with weekly physical therapy and wearing the helmet, and we're scheduled to go back to the neurosurgeon in August.

The neurosurgeon asked me during our appointment if this was our first baby.  He said with subsequent babies you tend to worry less about stuff.  He probably thinks I'm neurotic because I ask so many questions, but I don't really care because Kellen is my baby boy and of course I'm going to be concerned about if he will develop normally.  Plus, I don't care if he was my hundredth baby, I'd still want to know he was going to be fine!

You ask all the questions you want! Also, Zoe had to wear a gown at the doctor's office last week and she kept telling me, "Mommy! I LOOOOOVE my new pajamas!" haha! Silly kids
